Kissed by the clouds Sky Ranch is located 2,000 ft above sea level on a ridge separating Napa and Solano County. Our Vineyards and Orchard are grown on a south west slope where the unique soil composition and weather conditions create a microclimate that produces European style wines and olive oil with a kiss of California.

At Sky Ranch we grow four varietals of long-cherished red wine grape, all of which thrive in the Mediterranean microclimate we are fortunate enough to have on Mount Vaca: Syrah, Nero d’Avola, Touriga Nacional, and Malbec. Here is a little general information about each grape though we do, of course, like to let our wines do the talking for themselves.

Syrah, also known as Shiraz, is a dark-skinned grape that is very influenced by the climate in which they are grown. When grown in a sunny climate like Solano County, they produce a softer, more full-bodied wine such as our 2014 Il Cucozzolo Syrah.

Nero d’Avola is one of the most important indigenous Italian red grape varietals and is usually associated with sweet tannins and dark fruit or peppery flavors, not unlike Shiraz.

Touriga Nacional is a popular variety of dark-skinned grape from Portugal, often compared to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Malbec is a dark grape variety often used in red blends that creates a medium to full-bodied wine with robust tannins, ripe berry flavors, and a faintly smokey finish.
